You should avoid using band shorteners entirely with the X3 Force Bar, as the added pressure on the hooks will interfere with your readings. The X3 Force Bar measures the direct downward force the bands apply to the hooks on the end of the bar.

When band shorteners are used, they press inward against the hooks perpendicular to the force measurement, making the readings wildly inaccurate.

If you feel you must shorten the bands, you could try wrapping them an extra time around the hooks to take up some of the extra slack. Or, if you have shorter X3 resistance bands, you could use those. 

Remember to perform all the calibrations still using the original white band without shortening it.
